Recommendations from August

The Girl from the Other Side by Nagabe is an amazing manga series that I’m not even sure where I got the recommendation from in the first place, but I am glad I found it. I read the first four issues so far and it is just wonderful. It has a horror bent to it (it has monsters in it, if you couldn’t tell by the cover) but is an awesome story about a little girl who befriends a monster in a land where it is very much humans vs monsters.

The artwork is cool. I have been reading it on the computer from library loan check-outs, so it isn’t as clear as I would like it to be. But I am loving the series so far.

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes was a fun read. I really enjoyed it (yes, I love YA fiction!) I did have a slight cow with some of the facts having to do with a character who had a heart transplant, but not every reader is going to have the inside view that I have had in my life. Barring that, it was an awesome book and I can’t wait for the sequel (which comes out September 7th!!!)

How to Draw Fantasy Art & RPG Maps by Jared Blando. Yes, I have been playing with making RPG maps. This book has been a great introduction to it. RPG cartography is really cool and a lot of fun actually. I have been using Inkarnate software to create my maps. Maybe I will share some soon…
